HUNT #1 Locating the Natives of San Francisco

YES! The Ohlone - but you're not done yet.

The Ohlone Peoples occupied present day San Francisco, the East Bay and South Bay, sporting some 10,000 inhabitants. Extremely peaceful, these people had no real weapons of war, no beasts of burden and no wheel. None of these things were needed in a land of eternal springs, over-abundant wildlife, and moderate weather.

The Ohlone triblets located in San Francisco proper were clustered around Lake Merced near the Ocean and Mission Creak by the Bay. Now, how in the world do we know this?

"there's more to a name..."

Well, the Spaniards actually gave these people their original "Spanish" name: Costanoan.

The root of this word is "Costanos" (imagine a ~ over the n)

If you don't know Spanish, just know it has something to do with the peoples closeness to the "Coast".

So how do you suppose these people survived?

Agriculture, Industrial expansion or Hunting and Gathering?
