Organic Cotton and Cotton-fill Items
Consider products from A Happy Planet a personal investment. Cared for properly, they will provide pure comfort and beauty that will last for years.
General Care for All:
Air it out!! Freshen organic cotton-fill items seasonally by placing outside in sunlight and fresh air for a few hours. Sunlight is a natural sanitizer.
Keep dry and covered. If needed, stains can be cleaned using a 1:3 solution of distilled vinegar to water. Odors can be eliminated by sprinkling baking soda.
Take care to prevent moth damage when storage is necessary by using cedar chips and/or a cedar closet. Store products in a cloth bag or wrapped in paper to allow for proper ventilation.
Organic Cotton Linens:
Most of our products are made for home laundering and are machine-washable, with warm water, no bleach.
CHECK YOUR DETERGENT! Several brands of phosphate-free, natural detergents are available at most local stores. We do not recommend fabric softeners.
Linens are cut oversized in order to allow for an appropriate amount of shrinkage. Please pre-wash for proper sizing.
We urge you to wash linens separately from other items. Zippers, buttons and other rough surfaces may damage the long staple fibers and can cause pilling.
Line drying is a wonderful way to care for your linens. Hang items in the shade as direct sunlight will fade the fibers.
When using a machine, we recommend items be dried at a low setting—extreme hot (or cold) temperatures could shock fibers and decrease the life of the fabric. DO NOT overdry your fine linens.
Remove items immediately after drying. Smooth out wrinkles with your hands as you fold them. Should you wish to iron, remove items promptly when dry or when still damp. We recommend a hot, steamy iron for removing wrinkles, particularly in linen fabrics. A hot iron can restore sheen and luster to a sateen weave.
Organic Cotton Towels:
Because our 100% cotton terry towels are made with a fine cotton that is inherently coated with oils, several washings are required before the towels will reach their utmost absorbency. To speed the oil removal process, white vinegar can be added to the final rinse cycle.
Note that it is particularly important with all bath items that fabric softeners are NOT used. Fabric softeners can coat the organic fibers, resulting in a decrease in absorbency.
